Classic Thermalism
One of the oldest therapeutic treatments is thermal healing and has been duly recognized since 1986 by the World Health Organization.
These treatments are based on the use of the natural properties of thermal waters to relieve pain and treat chronic illnesses. Its main benefits result from a significant reduction in pain, improved mobility, reduced medication consumption and, consequently, improved quality of life.
The waters of Fonte Santa de Monfortinho are hypomineralized, bicarbonated, sodium, calcium and magnesium, having one of the highest silica contents among Portuguese thermal waters. The spring temperature is 29º C and they have a pH of 5.45.
They are particularly recommended for:
Chronic Skin Diseases: psoriasis, eczema, acne, cellulite, burn sequelae and other dermatoses;
Hepato-Vesicular Diseases: chronic hepatitis, dyskinesias, biliary lithiasis;
Gastrointestinal Diseases: gastritis, peptic ulcers, spastic colitis, diverticulitis, hemorrhoidal syndromes; ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease
Rheumatic Diseases: Osteoarthritis, spondylosis, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatism, chronic inflammation, vertebral dyscarthrosis;
Respiratory Diseases: rhinitis, sinusitis;
Renal lithiasis (stones in the urinary tract);
The benefits of these treatments last for several months, proof of the effectiveness of thermal medicine. To prolong and consolidate them, a growing number of thermal practitioners repeat their thermal cure once or twice a year.
